When you’ve got your very own Jacuzzi, it can be easy to forget in the middle of all the relaxation and gentle bubbles that you need to dedicate a bit of time to maintaining your tub. Our guide gives you a quick ‘how to’ on Jacuzzi maintenance.
Firstly, make sure you have the right equipment. Jacuzzi surface cleaner, filter solution, bleach and a soft sponge are the most important things, helping you to keep the tub surface, filter and plumbing in great condition.
The most obvious place to start your cleaning is the external surface of the Jacuzzi. These are easy to wipe down with a specialist surface cleaner, which you can get from spa supply stores. Drain the Jacuzzi of water before applying the cleaner to all the surfaces and letting it soak so the build up of grime dissolves. Then use a soft cloth or sponge to wipe of the excess cleaner. Cotton buds are useful for reaching the tricky bits, and remember to take extra care around the jets.
Care also needs to be taken with the inner workings of the Jacuzzi so the pipes don’t get blocked. Fill the Jacuzzi with warm water and dissolve into it 2 teaspoonfuls of detergent and half a cup of bleach. Run the Jacuzzi for a couple of minutes until the water from the jets is clear. Next, drain the tub and fill it with cold water. Leave it for 5 minutes and then drain it again so the Jacuzzi gets a good rinse. Manufacturers recommend this should be done every 3 months.
While you’re cleaning the insides, it’s also a good idea to clean the filter. This is easy to do – remove the filter and then use water from a hose to give it a good clean. Mix up a solution of water and filter cleaner, following the packet instructions. Soak the filter in the solution for the recommended time, then take the filter out of the water and give it a rinse with fresh water before you put it back into position in the Jacuzzi.
The above steps will help your Jacuzzi stay in great condition and let you get years of use out of it without affecting your warranty. It’s vital to give it a good clean as failure to do so can result in infections from contaminated water, which is caused when scum, dirt, skin cells and oil cause scales to form and bacteria begins to breed.
