Tips for Installing Vinyl Tile in Your House

New floor coverings make a significant difference in a room. Installing vinyl tile takes no time at all and the results are extraordinary and inspiring. A great flooring option for your next home remodeling project.

Most vinyl tiles are self-adhesive. The tiles have a chunk of paper on the back that, when removed, exposes the adhesive. Tiles can then be stuck in place on the floor, one-by-one. Often the tiles can still be moved around for a couple of minutes before the adhesive forms a tight bond.

Take away the floorboards around the outside of the room before getting started laying tile.

Read the directions on the back of the box of vinyl tiles. It is important that you lay out your tiles according to these directions. It is tempting to bring back home your new boxes of tile and start laying tiles out in a line against the wall one-by-one. But if you’d like to do this project correctly, you’ll need to measure to the center of each of your 4 walls and then use a chalk line find the exact middle of the room. Fundamentally, you want to lay your first tile in the middle of your room and lay every other tile down relative to that centered beginning tile.

Adhesive tiles often have to have weight applied to them to properly bind to the floor. Walking across the tiles helps (unless the directions on the box say that this would be a bad idea) or setting heavy objects on the tiles straight after you install them can also be helpful.

When you get to the edges of your room and you need to start making cuts to your tiles, confirm you’ve got a pointed knife to work with. A pointed knife can make the task of cutting tile much easier. Use a measuring tape, and a straight edge to get the cuts clean and perfect along the walls.

After you’ve finished installing the tile fully, reload your floorboards to cover up any of the errors you made cutting pieces laid against the wall. Installing tile can be an exciting change in a room. Laying tile can be enabling for householders who have been seeing tiny progress on other projects they may be working on. Be certain to follow the tiling instructions on the box to get the best results from your efforts.
